Okay, since I created it, I get to be first to sign up, ha.

I've read Outlander twice, but can't remember reading the rest of the series (although I own all the books and each of them on audio, too).

So I'd like to make sure I've read them all before Echo is released. I think, though, I'd like to get the graphic novel of Outlander to satisfy that portion of the challenge.

*Screams* WHERE IS MY HARDCOVER COPY OF DRUMS OF AUTUMN???!

(off to search now)

I've read them all once and have gotten quite a few fellow readers hooked on them too. It is one of my favorite series and I am sooo looking forward to an excuse to re-read them!

I never knew they came in audio!?! I get a little picky about audio, I like it to be unabridged and that might be hard with these books. But I would love to HEAR those lovely accents!

Oh, I'm Carey & my blog is The Tome Traveller's Weblog

Michele at Reader's Respite said...

Carey,

I got all my audios unabridged thru Audible (all but ABoSaA, which they don't carry for some absurd reason). Membership is something like $14 a month and you get one free download a month and then discounts on others if you want them. I just do the one free book a month.

And for what it's worth, the lady who narrates them (Davina Porter) is so great....she's just awesome. I laughed a little at her American accent when she got to Dragonfly in Amber, but her Scots accent is THE BEST. Loved her.

Ann (Booklorn on Twitter) said...

Count me in. I've read them all three or four times except for the Lord John standalones (read once each) and the last two (read once or twice).

Got into this series by buying the second or third book after browsing at the bookstore, getting home and settling in for a read only to find that I was in the middle of a series. After much gnashing of teach and stomping of feet, I went back to the store the next day so I could start at the beginning. Been hooked ever since.

Thanks Michele, I'm off to look into Audible...

The what?! There's a graphic novel? Why does no one tell me these things? Now I want.

Ann,

I believe it's due out in June or July of this year. I've never read a graphic novel and I want this one to be the first! I can't wait to read it!

Hi Shauna! I'm thinking this is going to be a challenging challenge, ha ha. I never realized how big these books are before....wow, huh? I think I stalled out somewhere along the way the first time through, but can't remember where. This time I'm seeing it through...so glad you are too!

As always I'm late to the party. Sign me up! I just grabbed Outlander from the library today. I felt bad for the old guy that had to carry the huge case up to the counter for me. I checked out and was really hoping he was going to do like they do at the grocery stores and ask me if I needed help getting it to the car. No luck! I think he was in need of a nap after wrestling it off the shelf and getting it to me. LOL!

I'm in!

I'm read all the Outlander books at least twice, some three times, but I've been listening to the unabridged recordings (Davina Porter) ever since ABOSAA has come out in one long gigantic loop. I just keep listening to them over and over while I drive in my car waiting for An Echo to come out.

For the challenge, I'll pop Outlander into the CD again and start all over (Outlander is my fav. books of all anyway).

I've become obsessed with these books. I went from being obsessed with Mr. Darcy to in love with Jamie Fraser in one fell swoop! I read them for the first time about 6 months before ABOSAA came out, so at least I didn't have a huge wait.

But, I need to go buy another Outlander, can't remember who I gave mine to!!

Happy reading!

Sireesanwar - I'm glad there are so many of us who are already reading the Outlander books -- makes a challenge fun, doesn't it? In the sidebar on the left side of the page there are links to each of the Outlander books which takes you to that book's individual page where we can post whatever strikes us. Clear as mud? LOL.

Erica said...

Just finished ABoSaA, and was so sad to put it down. And now, a great excuse to start over! Had to go get Outlander again (as I have given it away several times), and have laughed my way through the first chapter. The first time through, hooked on plot, I didn't focus on just how funny Gabaldon is. Rereading more slowly will be a joy. I love that she says P.G. Wodehouse is one of her inspirations!

Michele at Reader's Respite said...

Erica - isn't it so much fun to re-read them? I am constantly amazed at how much I missed the first time through! And yes, her dialogue is hysterical....I think that's why I like Claire so much...all that dry wit!

Tee Daniel said...

I only started this series in Dec of 2008. Within six weeks I am currently into the 4th book of the series. These characters literally come to life on the page! The author's abundant use of adjestives can make you 'smell' each thing she describes in detail. And the lovemaking.....JEEZ LOUISE! I am totally hooked. I think the books are addictive but am also afraid that if you feel you are in a dark place or are depressed it would not be a good idea to start these books as once you do you cannot put them down.
Several of us have fallen in love with the characters and their adventures. Even tho, sometimes I feel exhausted and have to stop for awhile I always go back.
The author can sometimes writes in an almost sadistic manner as well as very sexual. But it jumps off the page, either way.
Good luck to you all. I would love to have folks to discuss these books with.

I'm in. My blog is here: http://tinyhead.blogspot.com/

I've read the series through about 3 times. A friend of mine got me hooked, and I just raced through the books. I've never had to wait for the next one to come out, so I've been anxiously awaiting the next book. I think I'm going to try and listen to them on audiobooks this time. I've since introduced at least 2 more people to her books, and though they were initimidated by the size, now they are hooked as well. ~ Sarah

Michele at Reader's Respite said...

Sarah - thanks for joining in! I wonder how many people have been scared away by the sheer size of these books, lol?

Tee - you're right....the author can be very vivid with descriptions. I recall the scenes with Jamie's imprisonment at the end of Outlander being absolutely shocking. But the vividness also comes out in mundane descriptions, too. I suppose that's the author's talent.

I read and write Scottish time-travel but Diana's books are an institution - in a league of their own! I first found them when ABoSaA released, and read the whole series in under a month(!) and Diana shot to the top of my "Favorite Authors" list. Repeated that feat in spring '06 just after my son was born. Since then I've read Outlander by itself a few times, and others here and there. Will definitely finish the series again before ECHO releases. Anyone else as fangirl excited about the graphic novel as I am?!?

I'm with you Carol/RebelFan, I think Voyager is my favorite. When Jamie and Claire meet again for the first time... *swoon* (literally!)

Shannon - your link is up! Only a day to get hooked, eh? That must be some kind of a record!

Cynthia - wow, you've been through them all already?!? You don't absolutely need an Ipod for the audio, you can do a portable cd player if you like...I believe they are available in both formats. But make sure you get the UNABRIDGED versions because the narrator (Davina Porter) is soooooooooo much better than the abridged ones!

ibeeeg - got your link up in the sidebar and thanks for joining in! So far the consensus is that Voyager is the best, but you'll have to let us know if that holds true for you!

bugworks said...

all righty then. I'm Annie, my blog is bugworks. My dad called us all "bug", hence the bugworks. :D I stumbled on Outlander at a WalMart a long time ago. Had it read in a day and a half, and then Dragonfly and Voyager wrapped up my week. :D So... this is a re-read for me. I do it ever 9-10 months or so. I said on the main page they're old friends and I have to catch up with them every so often.

My favorite two are Dragonfly and Voyager. I liked the last one as well, and it had me in tears several times throughout.

I do not care for The Fiery Cross, and think it's obvious that it was there for exposition. It seemed to move VERY slowly and I always have a hard time with it.

Michele at Reader's Respite said...

Hey Annie! Seriously? A day and a half for Outlander? Holy cow, lady, you can READ! I'm glad to hear you liked the last one, since I have yet to read that one. And I'm with ya on

I'm on my fourth go around in 4 months of all the books. Each time I read them I glean more information and understand the plot connections much better. These are my favourite books and I find it difficult to read other books because they are not as well written or as thoroughly research.

My faves are Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, Fiery Cross and a Breath of Snow and Ashes

I am glad to find this, because my plan this year was to re-read the whole series, so that I was ready for Sept. I am just now starting Outlander for the 2nd time. Michele at Reader's Respite said...

Sue - Welcome aboard! I'm in the middle of DiA right now, too. I do love these books!
